How my journey as a memory bear maker started.

My journey into creating keepsakes began after the loss of my beloved dog Hamish. To help remember him, I made three Scottie dogs for family members. Not long after, a family friend asked if I could make some cushions from her mam’s clothing. With some fabric left over, I created two memory bears as well — and from that moment, everything seemed to fall into place. Those first bears showed me just how powerful a handmade keepsake can be, and that’s where Deborah Jameson Creations truly began.

I’ve been sewing for over 30 years. I first learned when I was pregnant with my first child. At the time, maternity clothes weren’t easy to find, especially for a young mum-to-be on a tight budget, so I started making my own. What began as a practical skill quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the years I’ve sewn many different things, but creating memory bears has become something particularly meaningful to me.

Creating something that holds meaning.

The thing I enjoy most about being a memory bear maker is knowing that I’m creating something that holds real meaning. Clothing often carries memories — familiar fabrics, patterns, and textures that remind us of someone special or a moment in life. Being able to transform those fabrics into a keepsake that can be held and treasured is incredibly rewarding. I find the process very mindful, and I approach each bear with care and respect for the story behind the clothing.

Made with care.

I work alone and personally make every memory bear that leaves my sewing room. Each keepsake is carefully planned before I begin, making sure the finished bear reflects the person the clothing once belonged to. I take time to consider fabric placement, details, and the best way to incorporate the most meaningful parts of the garments. Because of this, every bear is completely unique.

When you receive your bear.

When someone receives their finished memory bear, my hope is that they feel:

• comfort

• connection

• joy

• remembrance

Often it’s all of these things at once. A memory bear becomes more than just a keepsake — it becomes something that helps keep memories close.
